Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — How to Complete the First Shrine in TotK

Here's how to complete the puzzles in the Ukouh Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom.

Knowing how to complete the first Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is just the first step on your long journey through the Sky Islands toward Hyrule. In many ways, the Ukouh Shrine acts as the tutorial for the game's puzzles and abilities. Unlike some of the other early Shrines you’ll come across, this one can actually be a bit difficult to solve. Here's our Ukouh Shrine walkthrough.

Once you reach the Temple of Time door and find you can't open it, Rauru will appear. After a brief conversation, they’ll mark the location of the Ukouh Shrine on your map. It can be found west/southwest of the Temple of Time at coordinates (0274, -0913, 1460).

There are a few enemies along the way, including one with a bow that you’ll want to pick up. The enemy is on the left side of the path after you drop down from the Temple of Time.’

Once you climb the cliff to reach the Ukouh Shrine, interact with the seal to open a portal door in the rock. Inside, you’ll meet Rauru again and some bits of lore about the Shrines of Light. More importantly, they’ll give you the Ultrahand ability, which you’ll use to complete the Ukouh Shrine puzzles.

With your new ability, move forward, and use it to pick up the stone slab on the right side. Use the slab to cross the gap. I created a simple ramp by dropping the slab into the gap at an angle, but you may create another solution. It's not pretty, but it gets the job done (above).

Now you’ll find yourself facing another gap with two stone slabs on the right side. I crossed this gap by making another ramp. However, the opposite side is a bit higher than where you’re standing, so you’ll need to attach the stone slabs with the Ultrahand.

I did this by dropping one slab flat into the gap, then standing the other slab upright on top of it. An "Attach" action prompt will appear when the slabs are close enough.

Cross the large room while heading left, and you’ll come to a pillar with a steel rod acting as a zipline crossing a much larger and deep expanse. There are several building items along the wall to the left of the pillar.

Grab the large, square piece of wood and lay it flat on the floor. Then pick up the iron hook on the ground and attach it to the center of the wood square, hook facing up. This forms a platform. Pick up the fused piece and attach it to the steel rod. Jump on it quickly because it will start to move along the rod and across the gap, leaving you behind if you’re not quick enough.

On the other side, interact with the seal at the altar to receive a Light of Blessing.

And that's how to complete the Ukouh Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom and solve its puzzles. You’ll need to complete three Lights of Blessing to get the power to open the Temple of Time door.
